Letter from Greg Richmond

Dear CPICS, Congratulations on a fantastic Independent Charter School Symposium in Albuquerque. I was so impressed by the energy, ideas, and turnout. The symposium really felt authentic because so much of the content was of, by, and for independent charter schools. Many conferences have a top-down feeling. Not the Symposium; this was clearly from the grassroots-up. Participants were engaged and the topics were relevant to the needs of school leaders. Over the years, I have attended countless education conferences and hosted nearly 20 of them as the head of my own association of charter school authorizers. I know it is a lot of work. You and your small and mighty team did a fantastic job. I especially appreciated how you incorporated the schools and cultures of New Mexico into plenary sessions, breakout sessions, the receptions, and even among exhibitors. And, of course, the day of school visits was so important. I left Albuquerque feeling optimistic and energized about the future of independent charter schools and look forward to 2020 with great anticipation. Best wishes, Greg Richmond Founder, National Association of Charter School Authorizers
